The silica sol shell is produced through a process similar to water glass, with the difference being in the type of wax and the use of silicone glue. This process produces high-quality shells with low surface roughness, good dimensional accuracy, and high strength. The silica sol process is widely used for various alloys, from steel to aluminum. It is also used for high-temperature and heat-resistant metals.

During the casting process, the silica sol acts as a binder to hold the metal particles together. It produces components with high accuracy and fine surfaces, with a tolerance grade of CT4 to CT6. In addition, silica sol is used in the investment casting process used by RMC for its stainless steel castings. Recent advancements in the adhesive material have made the process more efficient.
