Forged parts typically feature high quality surface finishes, and are free of imperfections. In contrast, cast parts can develop unwanted porosity, shrinkage, and voids, which can cause scrapping near fully machined parts. Since forge parts are made from melted material, they have the advantage of being more robust and resistant to wear and tear.

Forge parts are more robust than cast ones. Forging keeps the grain structure tight, resulting in lower cost alloys. In this way, the forging process is much more efficient and often uses less expensive alloys.

Aside from being stronger, forged parts have superior aesthetics. Forged parts tend to have greater surface area and can withstand more deformation before breaking. In addition, forge parts are typically softer, which is important when parts are in high-stress conditions. It is best to choose the right process based on the specific application.
